The Senate has clarified that the prohibition of preaching and hawking inside commercial vehicles is not a new provision in the proposed amendment to the Federal Road Safety Commission Act.

The Senate said the offences have been part of Nigerian law since 2007 and are aimed at protecting the safety of commuters and road users. It also clarified that the proposed law does not ban public or street preaching, contrary to claims circulating on social media.

The Senate added that the amendment process is still ongoing and urged stakeholders with concerns to engage with the appropriate legislative authorities before the process is concluded.
