Federal Government says it has begun collecting evidence of property losses suffered by Nigerians during attacks in South Africa, as part of plans to seek compensation for affected victims through diplomatic channels.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, disclosed this after briefing President Bola Tinubu on his meeting with a special envoy of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Enikanolaiye said the government had introduced a claims form for Nigerians who lost property during the attacks. He explained that the information gathered would help Nigeria determine the extent of the losses before presenting compensation claims to South African authorities. The minister said discussions on compensation would continue in future engagements between both countries, stressing that Nigeria preferred diplomacy and negotiation but was not without options.
