Iraqi alliance Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation Forces) has revealed the US and Saudi Arabia have conducted strikes on Iraq, killing at least 20 militants, including several Iranians.
The United States and Saudi Arabia said the attacks targeted Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq in response to attacks on US forces and Saudi oil facilities. The strikes occurred amid ongoing tensions, as Iraq remains a proxy battleground for US and Iran, who are both allies and adversaries in the region.
Hashed al-Shaabi reported that five Iranian advisors were among those killed in Diyala province, with coffins draped in Iranian flags seen during a funeral in Baghdad. The Iraqi Prime Minister, Ali al-Zaidi, who took office this year with US support, promised to disarm pro-Iran groups, though some factions oppose this.
