Department of State Services has arraigned five suspected members of the terrorist group Ansaru before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The suspects are accused of involvement in the May 15 abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, which resulted in the alleged killing of two victims, Michael Oyedokun and Deacon John Olaleye.
The defendants, Mahmud Muhammad, Abbas Mukhtar, Abubakar Abbas, Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani—pleaded not guilty to charges of terrorism, conspiracy, aiding terrorism, and concealment of information.
The federal government alleges that Muhammad and Abbas ordered members of Ansaru to kidnap and kill victims across Nigeria if they were arrested, aiming to force the government to meet their demands. The case is scheduled for further hearing.
