Former Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick has endorsed FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell a stake in the commercial rights of the World Cup and other FIFA competitions.
Pinnick, who is deputy chairperson of FIFA’s Men’s National Teams Competitions Committee, argued that the initiative could help developing nations fund football independently of government support.
Recall Infantino has urged all 211 FIFA member associations to support the creation of a new commercial structure, which would establish a $20 billion subsidiary with private investors holding a 20% stake. The associations have until September 19 to approve or reject the plan, which has faced criticism, especially in Europe.
