Federal Government has announced plans to end electricity subsidy payments starting in 2027 as part of efforts to address rising liabilities in the power sector.
Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe disclosed this during a media interactive session, assuring Nigerians that the phased removal would not deprive them of current benefits. The policy forms part of broader reforms aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of Nigeria’s electricity industry and tackling its financial challenges.
Tegbe also clarified that despite the subsidy withdrawal, there are no immediate plans to increase electricity tariffs, reassuring consumers that tariffs will remain unchanged in the short term.
