Authorities in eastern Libya has refused entry to three European ministers—Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Greece’s Migration Minister Thanos Plevris, Malta’s Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri—and the EU migration commissioner Magnus Brunner, citing alleged illegal entry and violations of Libyan diplomatic norms.
The incident occurred after the delegation first visited Tripoli in the west, where they met with the recognized government headed by Prime Minister Dbeibah.
The eastern Libyan authorities, led by Osama Hammad, labeled the officials “persona non-grata” and accused them of disregarding Libyan sovereignty and laws, urging them to engage with the eastern government through proper diplomatic channels.
