Cameroon’s long-serving President Paul Biya, aged 92, has announced he will run for another term, ending months of uncertainty about his political future.
His decision, made on social media, has drawn criticism from opposition and human rights groups, who see it as a sign of Cameroon’s stalled political transition and urgent need for democratic reform.
Biya has been in power for over 40 years, securing a controversial re-election in 2018 amid allegations of fraud. His presidency has been marred by conflicts in English-speaking regions, accusations of corruption, and concerns over his health due to frequent medical absences.
