Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has approved N8 billion to offset part of the state’s huge pension arrears inherited from past administrations. Of the sum, N5bn is allocated to state pensioners and N3bn to local government pensioners.

The state pension board’s Permanent Secretary, Mohammed Usman, explained that no pensions were paid during former Governor Jibrilla Bindow’s four-year tenure, causing heavy backlogs. He added that payments also cover death benefits under the five-year rule.

meanwhile Some pensioners receive as little as N2,500 monthly, but increments are applied based on grade level. Usman expressed confidence that the Fintiri administration will fully clear the arrears before its tenure ends.
