President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Tonobok Okowa, has asserted that Favour Ofili’s decision to switch allegiance from Nigeria to Turkey was driven by financial reasons, contradicting the athlete’s claims.

In an interview with ESPN, Okowa stated that both World Athletics and Ofili had officially communicated her decision to them. He dismissed Ofili’s explanation that her move was due to perceived negligence by Nigerian sports administrators during the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, insisting instead that her choice was solely motivated by financial considerations.
