In the recent Rivers State local government elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won 20 local governments and the councillorship elections in 20 LGAs, marking the first time since 1999 that APC has gained dominance in the state.

While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed only two local governments and three councils, the election saw mixed turnout, with high participation in rural areas and varied urban turnout, including some areas like Port Harcourt.

Also, some elected officials are returning for a second term, having previously served under former Governor Wike.
