Court of Appeal in Akure has upheld the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State in the 16 November 2024 governorship election. The court dismissed the appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied People’s Movement (APM), and Social Development Party (SDP), ruling that the petitioners failed to provide credible evidence or witnesses to support claims of electoral irregularities.
So far, the three-member panel affirmed the earlier decision of the Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal, which had described the petitions as “speculative” with the appellate court imposing a fine of N1.5 million on the petitioners.
However, on speaking after the hearing Governor Aiyedatiwa welcomed the judgment, thanked the judiciary, his supporters, and President Bola Tinubu, and reaffirmed his commitment to governing the state following the reaffirmed mandate of over 366,000 voters.
