Several branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) have suspended services due to unpaid June 2025 salaries by the Federal Government. ASUU’s national president, Prof Chris Piwuna, had previously warned of a “no-pay-no-work” policy if salaries were delayed.

At institutions like the University of Jos, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, University of Abuja, and Ahmadu Bello University, lecturers have withdrawn from lectures and meetings, citing deliberate delays and issues with the migration from Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System(IPPIS)

ASUU branches have activated strike monitoring teams to ensure compliance, and ASUP has threatened strike action if salaries remain unpaid.
