Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has organized coordinated protests across various university campuses nationwide, two days before an important meeting in Abuja.
Lecturers from institutions including Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ilorin, and others, marched with placards, sang solidarity songs, and warned of an imminent strike if their demands were not met.
Their key demands included the implementation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement, release of withheld salaries, payment of arrears and promotion dues, revitalization of universities, rejection of a proposed staff loan scheme, and adoption of UTAS over IPPIS to maintain university autonomy.
At OAU, ASUU leadership criticized the government for delaying the implementation of agreements and highlighted that lecturers have not had a salary review since 2009.
