Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed that the legal voting age remains 18 years.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Yobe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, clarified this during an advocacy visit to the Emir of Bade, emphasizing that only citizens aged 18 and above are eligible to register and vote. He highlighted the importance of voter registration for electoral integrity and sought the Emir’s support in promoting the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

Online registration started on August 18, with physical registration beginning on August 25, both lasting for a year at INEC centers across Yobe State. So far, the registration targets unregistered residents, new voters turning 18, those with issues with their Permanent Voter Cards, and voters seeking to change polling units.
