‎ Australia has introduced sweeping anti-bullying reforms requiring schools to respond to bullying complaints within 48 hours, following a landmark 120-page national review commissioned by Federal Education Minister Jason Clare.

The review, which included 1,700 submissions from students, parents, and teachers, found bullying to be a national crisis, with victims up to six times more likely to experience depression or suicidal thoughts.

Under the new national standard, schools must record and act on any bullying report within two school days, documenting all details, evidence, and actions taken. The reforms also include trauma-informed training for teachers, a $10 million federal investment, and a national resource hub to help schools address bullying.

The changes — supported by all state and territory education ministers — aim to ensure faster, consistent responses and greater accountability from schools.
