Los Angeles Clippers have released 12-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul amid the team’s poor run, losing 14 of their last 16 games. The announcement came before their matchup with the Atlanta Hawks. Clippers president Lawrence Frank praised Paul’s legacy and insisted he was not to blame for the team’s struggles.
Paul confirmed his exit on Instagram, saying he had “just found out” he was being sent home. Reports indicate that Paul and head coach Tyronn Lue had not been speaking for weeks before the decision.
In his 21st and final NBA season, Paul leaves as one of the greatest point guards in history—second all-time in assists (12,552) and second in steals (2,728).
