At a seminar in Abuja marking the 2025 African Anti-Corruption Day, Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has described corruption as a profound violation of human rights and a major threat to national development, democracy, and justice.
Represented by Beatrice Jedy-Agba, he highlighted how corruption deprives citizens of essential services like healthcare and education, erodes trust in institutions, and undermines equality before the law. Fagbemi emphasized the need for robust whistleblower protection to promote transparency and accountability, urging anti-corruption efforts to respect the rule of law.
Other speakers, including Jane Onwumerre and Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, echoed that corruption disproportionately harms the vulnerable, fuels poverty, and strips citizens of dignity by denying access to basic services.
