Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, to October 16 to allow the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to present its medical examination report.
The court delayed proceedings because the NMA had not yet concluded its assessment of Kanu’s health. The NMA was tasked with independently evaluating Kanu’s condition to determine if he should be transferred from DSS custody to the National Hospital and whether he is fit to stand trial. The report was submitted to the Attorney General’s office, but it was not yet ready for court.
The court previously ordered the NMA to investigate conflicting claims about Kanu’s health, with the DSS asserting his condition is manageable at their facility, and the defense insisting his health is deteriorating. The trial is further delayed as the court awaits the medical report, which will guide the next steps.
