‎ A large-scale cholera vaccination campaign has began in Darfur targeting 1.86 million people across six localities to combat the rapid spread of the disease, which has caused over 12,000 cases and 358 deaths since May.

Before now the cholera conflict hampered health services and access to safe water, prompting coordinated efforts by WHO, UNICEF, Sudan’s Ministry of Health, Gavi, and ICG partners, including cross-border operations.

Meanwhile, the campaign started in Nyala and Ad Daein, with plans to expand to Tawila, focusing on vaccinating 97% of the population in affected areas. Alongside vaccination, efforts include improving water, sanitation, hygiene, and providing timely treatment to curb the outbreak.
