Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, is beginning their 2027 FIBA World Cup African qualifiers with a crucial mindset, knowing they cannot afford another World Cup absence after the football team’s failure to qualify.
The campaign starts in Tunis against host nation Tunisia, with Rwanda and Guinea also in their group. With only five African spots available for the finals in Doha, Nigeria’s margin for error is minimal.
Head coach Mohammed Abdulrahman emphasized the team’s focus despite a brief preparation period, as players arrived just hours before training. The squad includes a mix of international and domestic players, such as Ike Nwamu, Stan Okoye, Mike Nuga, and Christopher Obekpa, along with three home-based talents.
