Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, has dropped to 53rd in the FIBA world rankings from 42nd in March 2025, after their performance at AfroBasket 2025. They also fell from sixth to eighth on the African continent. The team, led by coach Mohammed Abdulrahman, advanced past the group stage but lost in the quarter-finals to Senegal.

Nigeria’s focus now shifts to the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers for 2027, having missed the 2023 tournament. On the continental level, South Sudan leads Africa, while Angola moved up to second. Globally, the USA remains top, followed by Germany, Serbia, France, and Canada.
