Nigeria’s Super Falconets has advanced in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, defeating Rwanda 1-0 in the first-leg of their qualification match in Kigali.
The two-time World Cup finalists secured a crucial away victory after a goalless first half, during which both teams focused on defensive solidity. The breakthrough came in the 70th minute when Janet Akekoromowei scored with a header from a corner kick, giving Nigeria the lead. Despite Rwanda’s efforts to equalize, the Falconets’ resilient defense held firm to preserve their advantage.
The second leg will be played at Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Saturday, September 27. The winner will advance to the third round of qualifiers to face either Senegal or Algeria.
