Nigerian Minister of Health, Prof Ali Pate, has met with the leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) and representatives from the Ministry of Labour amid ongoing negotiations.
Recall the union’s warning strike, started on July 29, 2025, over unresolved issues related to nurses’ welfare, allowances, and working conditions, which was set to continue until August 5, 2025.
While the strike was prompted by the government’s failure to address their 15-day ultimatum issued earlier in July, Nurses demand improved allowances, a new salary structure, more employment, and a dedicated nursing department.
In the meantime, the union’s leader, Morakinyo Rilwan, has emphasized that the strike is driven by widespread frustration and was not a unilateral decision, citing lack of government engagement.
