Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, has announced that the fiscal situation in Northern Nigerian states has seriously improved under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, largely due to economic reforms that reduced the region’s domestic debt by 42.06%.
Additionally, it was said that the reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, have increased federally allocated revenue and decreased state debts. Specifically, the domestic debt of the 19 Northern states dropped from N1.98tn to N1.14tn. Also, from May 2023 to June 2025, net revenue allocations to states more than doubled, with Northern states experiencing significant gains
