Federal Government has appealed to the United Nations (UN) for support in mobilising long-term financing to address Nigeria’s humanitarian and internal displacement challenges.
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, at a roundtable on Humanitarian Development and Peacebuilding held in Abuja said Nigeria needs access to sustainable funding mechanisms to tackle the root causes of displacement, rebuild affected communities, and reintegrate displaced persons.
Bagudu noted that while short-term relief has helped, long-term development and peacebuilding investments are vital to breaking the cycle of displacement. He suggested that access to $10 billion at 4% interest could fund durable solutions and generate wealth for internally displaced persons (IDPs)
