Federal Government through the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), will soon begin disbursing interest-free loans of up to N100,000 to smallholder farmers and businesses nationwide before the end of 2025.
Announced by GEEP’s empowerment program National Programme Manager, Hamza Ibrahim Baba, in Kaduna, the initiative targets small-scale farmers in poultry, aquaculture, livestock, and crop production under the FarmerMoni scheme. Beneficiaries will receive a six-month moratorium before repayment begins, enabling them to acquire essential inputs like fertilizers and veterinary drugs.
GEEP, under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, also includes TraderMoni and MarketMoni schemes, providing collateral-free loans to micro-enterprises, petty traders, artisans, and youth entrepreneurs to promote financial inclusion and job creation. The loans, ranging from N5,000 to N100,000, are not grants and require repayment. Baba further emphasized transparency in selecting deserving beneficiaries and collaboration with traders’ associations and GEEP Desk Officers across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
