The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has entered into a major cooperation agreement with the French government to modernise Nigeria’s tax administration through digital innovation, capacity development and enhanced cross-border tax enforcement.

The pact, signed in Abuja by FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji and French Ambassador Marc Fonbaustier, comes ahead of Nigeria’s transition from FIRS to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) in January 2026.

Adedeji said the partnership reflects a shared goal to create resilient, technology-driven tax systems amid global shifts in digital commerce and artificial intelligence. He noted that France will benefit from Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem and youthful, tech-savvy population.
