Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri has urged Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) companies that left Nigeria’s oil and gas sector to return, citing a more investment-friendly environment under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at the 2025 Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition, he highlighted reforms from the Petroleum Industry Act and incentives positioning Nigeria as a rewarding destination for EPC firms. Lokpobiri emphasized their critical role in infrastructure, project execution, and technology transfer.
He noted the adverse impact of insufficient EPC contractors, particularly in deepwater blocks, and mentioned 220 idle oil blocks, including 59 in deep offshore. The minister also addressed global energy challenges, stressing the importance of technology, AI, and human capacity building to ensure sustainable growth and competitiveness in Nigeria’s energy sector.
