Ghana has started receiving West African nationals, including Nigerians, deported from the U.S., President John Dramani Mahama announced on Wednesday.

The first group of 14 deportees, including Nigerians and a Gambian, arrived in Accra, with Ghana facilitating their return to their home countries under ECOWAS protocols.

This follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s intensified deportation push, targeting third countries like Eswatini and Rwanda despite safety concerns. Nigeria, however, rejected similar U.S. requests, citing security and economic issues, Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar said in July.
