Heartland Queens resumed their Nigeria Women’s Football League campaign with a hard-fought  2-1 victory, OVER  Ekiti Queens  in a tense and entertaining encounter.

Ekiti Queens struck first after taking advantage of an early defensive lapse by Heartland, with Amarachi Okoronkwo putting the visitors ahead.

Heartland Queens pushed forward in search of an equaliser and were eventually rewarded when an Ekiti defender handled the ball in the box. Johnson Chizoba converted the resulting penalty with calm precision to bring the hosts level.

The comeback was completed in the 38th minute when Chizoba Johnson sent a fine pass to Emmanuella James, who found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and finished clinically to give Heartland Queens the lead.

After the match, Heartland head coach Obi Ogbala praised his players for their resilience but acknowledged that more improvement is needed to reshape the team for stronger performances ahead.
