Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has outlined proposed reforms in the ongoing constitutional review, focusing on youth and women empowerment and giving traditional rulers a constitutional role.

Speaking at a Citizens’ Roundtable in Owerri, Abbas emphasized efforts to align legislation with public aspirations, including strengthening traditional rulers’ authority, enhancing grassroots governance, and promoting local government power devolution to improve service delivery and civic participation.

He highlighted initiatives to support youth development through mentorship and leadership programs, and underscored the importance of the Special Reserved Seats for Women Bill as a move to increase inclusiveness and democratic participation. Overall, the reforms aim to create a more inclusive, responsive governance framework that reflects Nigeria’s cultural diversity and promotes national development.
