House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian government to halt the West African Examinations Council’s plan to implement Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for the 2026 WASSCE, citing concerns over widespread academic failure, psychological distress, and safety risks.

The motion, led by Kelechi Nworgu, highlighted that Nigeria’s many rural schools lack the necessary infrastructure, such as computers and stable electricity, making the transition premature.

He warned that rushing CBT without adequate preparation could lead to mass failure and social issues among students. The House called for a three-year delay, better infrastructure, and training, and directed WAEC and the Ministry of Education to suspend the initiative immediately. They also tasked relevant committees to consult stakeholders and submit a report within four weeks to guide future actions.
