Imo State Government has banned graduation ceremonies for kindergarten, nursery, and JSS3 students and prohibited schools from changing textbooks annually.

A memo dated August 15, 2025, signed by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha, announced that graduation events are now only allowed for Primary 6 and SSS3 students.

The government also mandated that textbooks should have a minimum four-year lifespan to reduce costs and prevent deviations from approved materials. These measures aim to curb exploitative practices, promote uniformity in education, and focus on students’ academic progress.
