Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned political parties and candidates against premature electioneering for the 2027 general elections, as no official timetable has been released.

INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, has highlighted that such actions violate the Electoral Act 2022, specifically Section 94(1), which allows campaigns only 150 days before polling day, ending 24 hours prior. Section 95(1) mandates campaigns follow INEC regulations.

Despite rising political activities like posters and endorsements, Oyekanmi emphasized that open campaigning or vote canvassing now is illegal, a point raised at INEC’s recent meeting with political parties, urging full compliance.
