Nagasaki has commemorated the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing, with survivors and international participants striving to ensure their city remains the last to experience such destruction.
The bombing on August 9, 1945, killed around 70,000 people, contributing to Japan’s surrender in World War II. A memorial event at Nagasaki Peace Park included a moment of silence at the exact time of the explosion, attended by over 90 countries.
Nagasaki Mayor Shiro Suzuki emphasized the importance of preserving the city’s memory and called for global efforts to abolish nuclear weapons and promote lasting peace, symbolized by the release of doves representing peace.
FALL IN NAIRA, INFLATION PUSHES MANUFACTURING EXPENSES TO N2.6tn
Report says In the first half of 2025, the combined cost of sales for 12 Nigerian manufacturing companies increased by 19.68%, rising from N2.18 trillion in 2024 to N2.6 trillion. According to the report, this surge was driven by higher input and operational costs caused by inflation, foreign exchange pressures, and logistics challenges.
While some mega companies experienced significant increases, others showed a staggering 1,427.52% rise due to operational expansion. In the meantime, some Industry experts have highlighted that volatile exchange rates and high financing costs—interest rates above 30%—are major factors inflating production expenses.
