Kaduna State Government has initiated a full-scale reconstruction of the 61-year-old Ahmadu Bello Stadium, recently transferred from federal to state ownership, to transform it into a world-class sports complex capable of hosting continental and international tournaments.

During a Wednesday inspection, Commissioner of Information-designate Ahmed Maiyaki described the stadium’s current dilapidated state—marked by cracked terraces, faded seats, and overgrown pitches—as unfit for national, let alone international, events. The project, driven by Governor Uba Sani’s vision, aims to revive Kaduna’s sporting legacy, which once produced stars like Emmanuel and Celestine Babayaro, Tijani Babangida, and Garba Lawal, and to position the stadium as an economic asset.

The upgraded facility is expected to attract foreign investment, generate revenue, boost tourism, and create jobs in hospitality, retail, and transport sectors, restoring Kaduna’s status as a hub for Nigerian football.
