Kano State has submitted proposals to the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review, demanding the creation of an additional state from its territory and 26 new local government areas to address population growth, geographic spread, and developmental needs.
The state also supported establishing state police with clear operational boundaries to enhance security, alongside amending the 1999 Constitution for legal backing. Kano also proposed constitutional autonomy for traditional rulers, the creation of a National Council of Traditional Rulers, and a revised revenue-sharing formula: 40% for the Federal Government, 35% for states, and 25% for local governments.
Additionally, the state has endorsed greater gender inclusion in legislatures. The proposals, presented by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, reflect the aspirations of Kano’s people, urging favorable consideration by the National Assembly.
