Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda has confirmed ongoing negotiations with bandits in six of the state’s eight high-risk local government areas (LGAs), including Jibia, Batsari, Danmusa, Kurfi, and two others, to curb insecurity. The agreement has restored stability in four LGAs, with talks progressing in two more.

Speaking at the launch of an 18-month EU-funded project, Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience (CPCRR), implemented by the International Organisation for Migration, Centre for Democracy and Development, and Mercy Corps, Radda emphasized a community-driven approach involving women, youths, and persons with disabilities.

The project targets over 95,000 people in Katsina and Zamfara to address conflict, displacement, and socio-economic challenges like abandoned farms, closed schools, and markets due to insecurity, drought, desertification, and youth unemployment. Over 1.3 million people have been displaced in the North-West region as of February 2025.
