Kenya’s President William Ruto, just two years into his term, is already facing calls for him to leave office, with protesters demanding he vacate in 2027 under the slogan ‘wantam’ (one term).
His popularity has sharply declined after proposing controversial tax increases, seen by many as a betrayal of his campaign promises to support the working class.
Recall Ruto survived previous protests, including a deadly incident in which at least 22 people died and the parliament was attacked. Currently, he faces new protests sparked by the death of a blogger in police custody, which many Kenyans view as a sign of poor governance and authoritarian control over the legislature and security forces.
