Kogi State Government has banned graduation ceremonies in nursery, primary, and secondary schools to reduce financial burdens on parents and curb social ills associated with such events.
Announced by Education Commissioner Wemi Jones on September 3, 2025, in Lokoja, the policy also mandates parents to provide notebooks for classwork instead of using textbooks as workbooks, promoting textbook reusability. New celebration methods will encourage academic competition, and mock exams are now required for West African Examinations Council (WAEC)registration.
The policies, effective immediately, align with the 2020 Kogi State Education Law, aiming to improve education quality, reduce out-of-school children, and ensure compliance.
