Kun Khalifat has ended Enyimba’s seven-game unbeaten run with a hard-fought victory in the Oriental Derby played at the newly refurbished Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri yesterday.

Stanley Eguma’s side came into the encounter brimming with confidence after securing three wins and four draws in their last seven matches. However, Kun Khalifat — who had gone two games without a win — rose to the occasion, clinching their first Oriental Derby triumph of the season and maintaining their unbeaten record in the oriental derbies they have played this season

The decisive moment came in the 69th minute when Ebuka Nwokorie curled in a sublime free-kick, sending the packed Owerri crowd into wild celebration. Enyimba had earlier been reduced to ten men in the first half after Ndedi received a second yellow card, a setback that ultimately proved costly.

Speaking exclusively to Toast 90.3 FM after the match, Kun Khalifat’s head coach, Obinna Uzoho, expressed gratitude to the fans for their massive support and lauded Nwokorie’s performance. He also commended the forward’s consistency, noting that the goal took his season tally to five.
