France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron has appealed to the Court de Cassation after a Paris appeals court overturned convictions of two women who spread false claims that she was born a man named Jean-Michel Trogneux, her brother.

The women, Amandine Roy and Natacha Rey, made the claims in a 2021 YouTube video, which went viral, alleging a “state lie” about Brigitte’s gender.

A lower court had previously fined them 8,000 euros for damages to Brigitte and 5,000 euros to her brother. Both Brigitte and her brother are now pursuing the case at the highest appeals court.
