French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed full support for Prime Minister François Bayrou, who is facing a critical vote of confidence in parliament on September 8. Bayrou, seeking to push through unpopular spending cuts to save €44 billion, risks losing his position in a deeply divided legislature.

Opposition parties, including the far-right and hard-left, have rejected Bayrou’s plan. The far right is demanding new elections, while the left wants Macron to step down. Macron, now on his sixth prime minister since 2017, is weighing options if the government falls—appointing a new PM, dissolving parliament, or possibly resigning.

Macron emphasized France’s economic resilience and urged political parties to act responsibly. Former PM Edouard Philippe acknowledged a new parliamentary dissolution may be inevitable if deadlock persists.
