President John Mahama of Ghana has assured Nigeria of the safety of its nationals in Ghana, emphasizing no room for xenophobia.
During a meeting with a Nigerian envoy led by Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to ECOWAS protocols on free movement. He addressed tensions caused by a recirculated decade-old video, noting the situation was swiftly managed with only about 50 protesters involved.
Mahama promised protection for Nigerians’ lives, properties, and businesses as Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s visit aimed to ease concerns in Nigeria, strengthen bilateral ties, and propose a Nigeria-Ghana Joint Commission to tackle youth migration due to unemployment.
