Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello (represented by Ogun State Commander, Bosede Jimoh), has called for stronger public collaboration to combat human trafficking, especially in Ogun State. This call was made during a sensitization walk in Abeokuta to mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
The event, organized with the Ogun State Taskforce on Human Trafficking and other partners, visited key markets and areas including Kuto, Isabo, Sapon, Itoku, and Lafenwa.
Bello highlighted that Ogun State has become a hotspot for human trafficking, with over 50 cases handled since August 2023, three convictions, and seven cases pending in court. Offenses include child labor, sextortion, and baby sales.
While she warned parents and communities to stay alert, as traffickers often disguise themselves as friends or neighbors, key contributing factors to trafficking include peer pressure, unemployment, family issues, and ignorance.
