National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP has detained a 60-year-old influential orphanage operator and founder of National Council of Child’s Right Advocates of Nigeria NACRAN in Benue State over allegations of child trafficking, illegal adoption, and sales.

The operation led to the rescue of 26 children out of an estimated 300 trafficked across several states, with efforts ongoing to find the remaining victims.

Additionally, an accomplice and two other orphanage operators were also detained. The crackdown follows recent concerns about corruption and exploitation in orphanages, with investigations revealing a large trafficking network that began after a father reported his child being unlawfully taken by a Non Governmental Organization NGO.
