MADAGASCAR MILITARY DECLARES TAKEOVER  FOLLOWING IMPEACHMENT OF PRESIDENT ANDRY RAJOELINA

In Madagascar, military leader Colonel Michael Randrianirina has announced that the armed forces are taking control of the country amid ongoing political crisis.

This is coming after a parliamentary vote to impeach President Andry Rajoelina, who has reportedly fled the country.

Randrianirina stated that the government structures are being dissolved to restore democracy, and outlined a transitional plan including a joint presidency and judicial reforms. The power shift comes after weeks of mass protests by Gen Z demonstrators, with Randrianirina's troops joining the protests and Rajoelina going into hiding.
