UGANDA’s ELECTORAL COMMISSION SLATES FINAL DATE FOR GENERAL ELECTION

Uganda's electoral commission has announced January 15 as the date for the country's general elections.

Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, in power since 1986 and now Africa's fourth longest-ruling leader, is seeking re-election. His government has amended the constitution to remove age and term limits.

Museveni, credited with stabilizing Uganda and boosting the economy, faces main challenger Bobi Wine, a former rebel and pop star turned politician, who alleges election fraud in previous polls. Six other candidates are also running, alongside elections for parliament.
