Referee Development Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has indefinitely suspended three referees — Mohammed B. Tuta, Ben Japhet, and Ikechukwu Taiwo — from officiating in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) over poor officiating.

According to a statement signed by Ameenu Mohammed, Tuta and Japhet were sanctioned for decisions that fell below professional standards during the matchday eight encounter between Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars, which was also marred by fans’ violence at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Similarly, Taiwo, who officiated the Nasarawa United vs Rangers match, was punished for awarding what the Committee described as an “unjustified penalty.”

The Committee said the referees would remain suspended pending further review and participation in retraining programmes, reaffirming its commitment to integrity, transparency, and professionalism in Nigerian football officiating. It also warned that any referee found compromising match standards would face strict disciplinary action.
